Comparing Hair Transplant Clinics

What is worth comparing, what is not, and how to get answers you can put side by side.

Why there is no comparison table here

We could put two clinics next to each other with their star ratings and review counts, and it would look authoritative. It would also be misleading. A rating measures how many satisfied people left feedback, which tracks a clinic's size and marketing far more than its surgery. Two clinics on 4.9 are not thereby equivalent, and a clinic on 4.6 with 80 reviews is not thereby worse than one on 4.9 with 6,000.

What is genuinely comparable is what each clinic will state in writing. That is the comparison worth building.

The six answers to line up

Ask every clinic on your shortlist the same six things, and record the answers.

  1. Who operates. The name and licence number of the doctor, and which parts they perform personally rather than a technician.
  2. The graft count. The number proposed for you, how it was arrived at, and what happens to the price if it changes on the day.
  3. The total price. Itemised, including medication, aftercare and follow-ups, and what is excluded.
  4. Where it happens. The facility, whether it is licensed for surgery, and who administers the anaesthesia.
  5. Aftercare. Who you contact after you leave, in what language, at what hours, and what happens if you are already home.
  6. If it goes wrong. The policy on a poor result at twelve months, and whether a corrective procedure is included.

A clinic that answers all six specifically has already distinguished itself. So has one that will not answer the first.

Narrowing the list first

Every country and city page carries filters, so you can reduce a few hundred clinics to a handful before you write to anyone: by procedure, by the language the clinic works in, by minimum rating, by whether a surgeon appears in a professional register, and by whether the clinic publishes a phone number at all.

What not to compare

  • Before-and-after photographs. Lighting, hair length and styling change the apparent result more than surgery does.
  • Technique names. Micro FUE, Bio FUE and similar are usually the same operation with a brand attached.
  • Headline prices. They describe the smallest case at each clinic, which is not the same case at each clinic.
  • Society logos. Membership is voluntary and paid. It is a mild positive signal and nothing more.
